Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday took a dig at the Centre by addressing the G20 Summit as the “G2 Summit”. According to him, the zero in the G20 Summit got covered up by a “lotus”, the election symbol of the BJP.
During the first day of the special session in Parliament, Congress President and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, took a humorous jab at the government by referring to the recently-concluded G20 Summit as the “G2 Summit.” Kharge’s remark was seen as a playful dig at the ruling party, BJP, as he suggested that the zero in the G20 Summit had been concealed by a lotus, which is the election symbol of the BJP.

However, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar promptly corrected Kharge’s reference, clarifying that it was, in fact, the “G20 Summit.” To this, Kharge responded with humor, stating, “The zero was covered with a lotus,” alluding to the election symbol of the BJP.
The political banter did not end there. The BJP quickly responded to Kharge’s comment by invoking the 2G spectrum scam, a scandal that occurred during the Congress government’s tenure. Union Minister Piyush Goyal took a swipe at Kharge and the Gandhis, seemingly alluding to Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, saying, “He sees only 2G, One G and Son G.”
The special session of Parliament, which began on this eventful day, generated significant interest and speculation about whether the government had any surprises planned during the five-day sitting. The session was set to include discussions on Parliament’s 75-year journey and the historic occasion of shifting House proceedings from the old Parliament building to the newly constructed one on the following day, which coincided with Ganesh Chaturthi.
